Makeup Trials & Other FAQs

aka a lot of delicious info!

Let's talk trials!

I find trials to be super important! And SUPER fun!

A trial gives us a chance to meet, break the ice, connect, chat and vibe to give you peace of mind in me as your artist. Most importantly, trials allow us a personal, one on one time to consult and collaborate on the makeup look you want to bring to life for your special moment-

PRIOR to the actual BIG day!

We "glam" your full face. I take my notes/pics, get your feedback in the moment as I walk you through step-by-step what I'm doing. You test drive the makeup and how how it wears after your trial and email/text me your notes!

Yes, I will bother you for your notes! A simple, "everything was fabulous", works for me, too! LOL But, by all means, please be as detailed as possible with whatever notes your have and bullet point! Then, I am able to add this feedback to my notes, so it's a quick recap consultation/easy fix on the BIG day!

Day of, you just show up and sit back!

Makeup trials are 90+ minutes.

Available Monday - Thursday. Some Sundays as available.

By appointment only.

To schedule your trial preview, please contact me 3-4 months prior to your event!

1 trial is included with a booked party of 4+ adults.

Additional trial w/ booked event (larger party)

OR a trial for a booked micro-party (3 or less adults)- $125

Trial without booked event- $150 *will not hold date

Here are some quick tips for your Makeup Trial!

  • It’s best to schedule your trial 1-2 months before your event. (Lets get it on the books 3-4 months before you event). By then, most of the details of your event will be set, you’re somewhat settled on your colors, theme, and accessories and will be able to feel more confident discussing the look and vibe you would like to capture for your makeup. It also helps me keep your look consistent with your trial and my memory on par with my notes! LOL

  • Makeup Inspo photos- Check out some of my work and my instagram @shariddoesmakeup. Pinterest and google, are ok searches, too! It is a great way to start discovering makeup looks that fit your style. Don't get intimidated by inspo photos. They are just a good starting point to see what your eye is drawn to. Look for someone with similar skin tones, age range, hair color, features, etc. If you still aren’t sure, its ok, that is what a trial is for! With years of experience in many kinds of makeup scenarios, you are in the best hands- I'll walk ya right on through! Together, we will collaborate to figure out what would work best for you and your individual taste.

  • Come with a complete clean, freshly washed, bare face! You can do your skincare routine if you'd like if there is NO SPF. However, we do it all- from skincare prep to lashes.

  • Try to wear a similar color to what you will be wearing at your event (For example, if you're a bride, wear white). That way you can see how the makeup will look with the color. Bring any accessories you plan on incorporating. Earrings, Hair accessories, etc...or at least know the colors of your jewelry and shoes!

Pre-trial/pre-event prep work!

  • Taking care of your skin is vital to achieve fresh, natural looking makeup. Exfoliate, hydrate, tone and moisturize! Get a facial, microderm or dermaplaning. Ramp it up leading up to your special event- trust me, it makes such a difference with how makeup sits on the skin. It’s much easier to cover discolorations and blemishes, than texture! 😁

  • Any brow treatments- waxing/tweezing/threading and advanced facial treatments should be done 3-7 days before your preview trial AND before your event.

  • If spray tanning/self tanning, make sure to deeply exfoliate before your tan so the product doesn’t stick to dry spots and develop patchy. Allow time for tan to develop and be sure to shower prior to makeup application. Aim to tan a few days before your trial and event. If you don't like to tan your face, that's ok, we can match your shade to your decolletage!

A few more things...

  • Brides to be, I like to suggest booking your trial on the day of your dress fitting, if possible. It’s a great way to see how the makeup will complete your look. Engagement photoshoots or pre-wedding day activities (that fall on a weekday) are other good times to do your trial so you can see how the makeup wears and photographs. 1 trial is covered for parties of 4 or more adults. If you have other makeup needs, photoshoots/parties/extra trials, etc leading up to the event date, the rate would be discounted $125 per event. BOOK YOUR EVENT/PARTIES/PHOTOSHOOT DATES AS FAR IN ADVANCE AS POSSIBLE!

  • Things to consider bringing in your purse or pocket on the day of your event: Products work differently on different skin types and can be affected by many things, including weather, temperature and event DANCING! I suggest bringing a touch up powder or blotting papers if you tend to get oily. If you tend to be more on the dry side, you can probably skip this. Lip products are always a good idea to have on hand, too! If you need me to suggest a shade for you to purchase or pick up a color for you, let me know, I would be happ to! They usually run anywhere from $15-$30. Other than that, all makeup will remain fabulous all night long! Ok, maybe pack some tissues to DAB tears away, just in case!

  • How do I take lashes off? I hear this all of the time! Have ever had gum on your shoe? It's kinda going to feel similar. Not painful at all, just a little sticky! I like to start on the outter corner of the eye. As far away from the eye as possible, pinch the lash above and below, with 2 fingers. Lightly tug away from the eye. If it hurts, please stop and reassess the above steps. If it doesn't you will feel that "sticky shoe" feeling and the lash will pull right off towards the nose! Like peeling a bandaid but way less painful!
